I came across this through Danji's journal, and have been researching it on and off ever since.

There is a bill that's before congress, HR669. Basically, if this bill is passed, if you own anything other than a cat or dog, it'll be banned within the US (of being bred or sold)

In more detail of this bill, it bans the selling and breeding of any/all non-native animals from the US. This list of animals includes:
* Virtually all fish in an aquarium are not native to the United States
* Most pet birds are species not native to the US
* Most reptiles kept as pets are not native to the US
* Hamsters, gerbils, guinea pigs and ferrets are not native to the US
And that's not even the whole list...

WHY are they doing this? Well the reasons are absurd. Quoted right from the bill itself:
"The purpose of this Act is to establish a risk assessment process to prevent the introduction into, and establishment in, the United States of nonnative wildlife species that will cause or are likely to cause economic or environmental harm or harm to other animal species’ health or human health."

Which is a bunch of BS. I mean I can understand SOME animals, like non-native snakes being released in Florida and messing up the ecosystem there (from what I researched) then ban THOSE snakes from THAT state. Not every animal from every state.

No, it's not anything lame like "OMG SIGN THIS E-PETITION" because those don't work. So stop it. It's basically sending an auto e-mail to Congress (your state's representatives)

All you do is type in your zip-code and fill out some info, and click send. If you feel uncomfortable doing it this way, I'm sure you can lookup the e-mails of your state representatives. That link, you can also track how many e-mails have been sent.
